I love wrestling. I can’t help it. It’s not even a guilty pleasure because everyone knows how much I enjoy it.
But as more and more is revealed from the news of Chris Benoit, the story just gets darker and more tragic.
He was a great wrestler, and I’m not sure what this news will do to the sports entertainment industry. Since 1985, about 40 wrestlers under the age of 40 have died (I don’t know the exact figures). I think this maybe something that WWE cannot bounce back from. It’s not like Chris Benoit was a nobody. He was going to be a hall of famer in the WWE.
In the NBA, it’s like the franchise’s second best player, well known throughout the league, commits a horrible act like this, like an Antwan Jamison, or a Derek Fisher, or a Lamar Odom, Shawn Marion. It’s a big superstar.
I also read that Benoit has two more children.
It’s just tragic and somebody needs to do something about these wrestlers, because everyone knows that Benoit is not the only one that has connections to steroids.
In other news, I found this video today:
Good for her, but too little too late. I can’t believe that this Paris Hilton story has ruled our papers and news items throughout the month.
What upsets me the most is that more people know about Paris Hilton’s jail term than what’s going on in Darfur.
I wish “real” news programs would leave that kind of stuff to the entertainment news like ET or Access Hollywood, or talk about it in their 5 minute entertainment segment (And 5 minutes is more than I ever want to hear about her anyhow). But it’s just ridonkulous that the Paris Hilton story gets so much press, even the lead item, when there are much more important issues and happenings in the world.
We, as the people of United States, need to recheck what our priorities are.
